How do I know what to take with me?

Bass N Mexico provides its customers with a convenient packing list which can be printed from the website or can be mailed to you upon request.    Click here for packing and lure lists.

How much do I tip, who do I tip and when?

The normal tipping practice in Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil are basically the same.  These are guidelines and are typically the minimum standard. Guides normally are tipped $15.00 per fisherman ($30.00 per day, per boat) and it’s best to wait until the last day of fishing to tip your guide.  House or camp tips normally are from $40.00 to $50.00 per fisherman, per trip.  This tip covers the Cook, Waitresses, Maids, Tackle and Boat Watchmen, and Guards.  Normally the lodge will pass out an envelope for this tip or you pay this tip directly to the cook.  This tipping custom varies at each lodge.  There is no need to exchange American dollars for pesos.  Many fisherman leave gifts for their guides such as baseball caps, t-shirts, fishing tackle, etc.  Although these are good ideas, they are not mandatory and should not replace the monetary tips.

What lures do I bring, and what can I expect to catch?

Bass N Mexico will provide a current list of lures for each lake with each fishing report.  Click here for packing and lure lists.

Bass fishing can be somewhat predicted at times, but is not an exact science.  We will try to zero in on the best lures and tackle, fishing numbers and updates are posted on our website.  One advantage of being a Bass N Mexico customer is that weekly to bi-weekly reports are supplied to you automatically prior to your departure.  You can also sign up on the website for the Bass N Mexico Newsletter.

Can I keep my trophy or how many filets can I bring home?

All lakes practice catch and release.  A much better practice that helps preserve the trophy bass and fishing all around is to have a Reproduction made.  All that is needed is a photo, length, weight and girth.  Bass N Mexico provides this service, and we are presently using the four best Taxidermists in the U.S.  Help us preserve the trophy bass fishing in Mexico by considering this worthwhile practice.  It has been our experience at Bass N Mexico that the Reproductions look better, and last longer.  An added advantage is that they are Guaranteed against accidental damage.

In case of emergency, how can my family reach me?

Bass N Mexico files emergency contact numbers provided by the customer and will directly contact the lodge for your family members in emergency situations.  Our toll free line is always open 24/7.

What can I expect as far as the weather is concerned?

Can I get help with airfare?

Bass N Mexico can provide you with a toll free number of our travel agent that can help you secure your flights at a possible discount, in many, not all cases.

How prolific is the netting, and what can I expect?

Despite what many booking agencies may say, all lakes in Mexico have commercial netting.  Lake Huites and Lake El Salto have no netting from April to September.  All lakes have different rules and regulations for netting; most have quotas or specific times for commercial fishing. Normally, commercial fishing does not interfere with bass fishing.

How safe is the travel in Mexico, Brazil or Venezuela?

Despite rumors that these destinations are dangerous places, this is simply not the case.  Travel in Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela is much the same as it is in the U.S. and other countries.  For the bass fisherman using Bass N Mexico services, the lodges cover all transportation from the airport to the lodges.

Are Banditos a problem?

The word ‘banditos’ implies a gang or organization etc. that travel around and steal, rob or kill. That is a misconception.  On rare occasions there have been reports of people being robbed in Mexico, but statistically there are more robberies in any major city in the U.S. per day than there are in Mexico in a year.  Although safety is a concern for any travel, the lodges we book for and our customers report no incidents of robbery in recent history.

What if I require medical attention while in Mexico, Brazil or Venezuela?

All the lodges Bass N Mexico are affiliated with are near medical facilities and in an emergency you will be driven or flown to the nearest medical facility.

Is there additional paperwork required if I am traveling with my minor son/ daughter or grandkids?

Yes, you must have a letter from the non-traveling parent or guardian stating that they give permission for the minor child to be traveling with you. Customs will not allow entry into a foreign country without this letter.
