MEXICO BASS FISHING: Lake El Salto is located deep in the
heart of the rugged Sierra Madre mountain range, about a one and
one half hour drive north of Mazatlan on a nice paved road.
This 23,000 acre impoundment is home to some of the very best
Largemouth Bass Fishing in the world. The lake is 20 miles
from the coast and approximately 500 feet above sea level.
El Salto Lake was formed by the damming of the Elota River.
The scenery simply put, is superb. This great
bassin' factory was originally stocked with Florida-strain Bass
in the Fall of 1986. The bass at lake El Salto have matured
to a tremendous size in the past few years. Shad
were successfully stocked 4 years after the lake opened
and other forage baits like Tilapia and Crawfish
are abundant and contribute a tremendous supply of protein to
the growing bass.

El Salto is the perfect lake for Hawgs, with the opportunity
for a double digit fish with every cast! Some phenomenal
reports have been coming from this lodge over the years and
this would be a really good choice to get a wall hanger
for sure. Literally thousands of bass over 10 pounds
have been caught and released at this great Bass Factory!
Every year the lake record keeps being challenged by yet another
monster Bass! The lake record of 18 pounds-8 ounces
was caught in early September 2000, by Tony Orlando. Many
lunkers in the 8-14lb range are caught every week from October
until June! El Salto is with out a doubt the "Heavy
Weight Contender" of Bass Lakes, anywhere!
Perhaps one of the best-kept secrets in the fishing
world is the great fly fishing that is possible on Lake
El Salto! From October until February, fly fishermen of
all skill levels will be able to revel in the sport. During
this time of year, the bass are usually shallow and aggressive,
exploding on top water offerings. Usually, surface
flies and poppers will be the best bait, and an 8 weight
rod should do the trick. The fly rod record for El Salto
is 9 pounds-4 ounces! Can you imagine the possibilities?
